The comic title today is a reference to a terrible film that had Morpheus in it and Kid Rock stepping up his Hot Topic cred with a goth spiky collar. Bet you wish you hadn’t remembered that!
Grabbed a couple new records today. Del tha Funkee Homosapien’s new record Funk Man is pretty fun. I haven’t given it a good listen yet, but I am sure to enjoy it. Del’s solo stuff is underrated, but it is hard not to considering the role he played in awesome albums by Hieroglyphics like Full Circle and 3rd Eye Vision.
I grabbed the new one from The Horrors. The Horrors, as I think I’ve mentioned before, were instantly dismissed by me, despite the great video that Chris Cunningham made for them. Well, after getting their first album last week, I was instantly a big old puddle of adoration.
Their new album Primary Colours is more restrained and definitely brings the My Bloody Valentine/Jesus & Mary Chain/Shoegaze/Creation Records vibe in spades. The opening track of the album perfectly sets up everything else to fall in afterwards. I look forward to another straight album like their first, but this one is really great.
I also just went through a little Dizzee Rascal splurge while writing this newspost. His strength really is the couple of blow-out songs per album. I’ve just going through the singles off the first two records like Oldskool (the censored version is better), Fix Up Look Sharp, Stand Up Tall and Sirens. I had written off Dizzee years ago as a bit of a gimmick, but after hearing the second album, I got a little more interested. Then seeing him live at the Big Day Out last year, he was really, really great. I can not overstate the presence and energy this guy had on stage. No hyperbole involved.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the comic and my bollocks today. Hit me up on Twitter and tell me what you think.
